In reply to the letter which you have
addressed to His Excellency the Governor, dated the 18th. inst-
-ant, I am directed to state that His Excellency has given your
letter very careful and sympathetic consideration, in consulta-
-tion with the Director of Public Works, and has come to the
conclusion that on this occasion it is advisable to ask for the
appointment of a lst. Assistant Director of Public Works from
outside the Department.
